11/11/11 - Lest we forget

Diggers member Blue wore Australian WW1 Light Horse uniform to the Remembrance Day ceremony. Some photos are kindly taken and provided by Mike Johnson. Thanks Mike.

The Victory Show 3/4 September 2011

This year was our first attendance at the Victory Show and we welcomed Lofty, Ned (Kelly) and Joey to the group. We had an excellent position in the forested area. A portion of the Kokoda Track was presented to the public, which was very well received with many being unaware of this important part of Australia's military involvement in WW2. Here is a small selection of photos of the event with more here and some more here on Flickr.

Thank you Karen for taking so many excellent photos.

Crich August 2011

A strikingly handsome Digger with a well earned pint back from Tobruk was seen in Crich before being shipped off to the Far East! There was also a bloody good lookin' fella from the Light Horse who could easily be confused with that Mel Gibbon (sic) fella.

Tankfest 2011, Bovington Tank Museum 25/26th June

Digger, Blue and Snowy of the Diggers Living History Group had an excellent weekend at the Tankfest 2011 event. Lots of interest from the public, compliments from the event organisers and other participants, new friendships made, a fun mail call, good mock battles on both days and great sights and sounds. Here are a few photos, with more here.

Wartime Clumber 4/5th June 2011

The groups third attendance at the Wartime Clumber event enjoyed good weather during both days and a spectacular flyover by two Spitfires. The Diggers were representing members of the all volunteer 6th Div 2AIF who sailed to Britain soon after war was declared, Their initial deployment was to North Africa to fight Italian and German forces.

Events for 2011

In June, the excellent Wartime Clumber event is at Clumber Park (Worksop, Nottinghamshire S80 3AZ) Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June 2011. As it is a home front event we will be depicting the 2/12th Battalion when they were stationed in the UK before being shipped out to the Middle East.

Tankfest 2011 is the next event at the end of June. The unit portrayal will be the 2/23 Battalion, they took part in the Benghazi Handicap and also Tobruk where they manned the perimeter defences of the Red Line.

You will find us in the main display area as indicated.

The Crich Tramway Museum in July will see Colin and possibly some of the others in the group in showing our Great War Australian uniforms including the Light Horse. Then in August (13/14th) at the same location's WWII event we will be representing the 2nd AIF - come and talk to a Digger in the pub just bacl from Tobruk!

The Victory Show at Cosby held in the first week of September. We will be located in an area in the wood where we can depict the AIF/Militia forces in the jungle campaign against the Japanese Imperial Forces. We may make this a generic display as regards to uniform, equipment and weapons covering 1942-1945 from the Kokoda Track, Shaggy Ridge to Balikpapan etc.
